Sandra MacPherson

Sandra MacPherson has an enthusiasm for place making and urban literacy that informs three decades of experience in education and community building in Ottawa and internationally. Her PhD dissertation explores democracy and belonging in urban spaces by examining walking in the city as it intersects with gender, race, language and class. An admirer of Jane Jacobs, Sandra has facilitated walks and coordinated launch events for Jane’s Walk, an annual grass roots festival of walking tours aimed at engaging citizens locally. Before completing her PhD, Sandra worked in the public sector developing learning programs for Global Affairs Canada, the Embassy of Canada in Mexico, the Canadian High Commission in India, and Thompson Rivers University in partnership with the World Bank. Sandra has also taught at the University of Chile in Santiago, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City, and Northern Jiaotong University in Beijing. She is currently adjunct professor in the English Department at the University of Ottawa. Sandra and her family were dedicated citizens of Sandy Hill and are now enjoying their new community of Old Ottawa East.

Board of Directors

Over the last ten years, community members have remained on the Board and worked through some very difficult times to see this vision through. Their commitment has ensured the organization stayed intact, and they are the reason we are able to proceed with an expanded vision today. We owe them a collective thank you for their dedication and commitment to this project.

We have recently had some new and talented members join our efforts, both as Board members and as volunteers and collaborators. These people are equally committed to preserving the built-heritage of the area, while sharing the larger vision for a vibrant capital city. We welcome their energy and enthusiasm.
